The Fantastic Four has a new name, again, and yes, they will be making the leap to the next couple of Avengers movies

Marvel revealed another new name for its Fantastic Four film during its Hall H Comic-Con panel, as it showed off some test footage for the upcoming movie.

Back in February, Marvel finally gave its Fantastic Four film a proper name, The Fantastic Four, at the time also confirming who will be playing said quad of superheroes. Well, at Comic-Con this week, Marvel decided to give it another new name, though this one's more of an extension than an outright name change: The Fantastic Four: First Steps. What that subtitle means, I couldn't tell you, though I assume it'll be something to do with heading out into space, or into another universe, given that it's set in a retro-future New York City separate from the main MCU's universe.

Director Matt Shakman shared that production on the film is due to kick off this coming Monday over here in the UK, but there was a bit of teaser footage shown off all the same. Apparently the footage included a look at Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman, The Human Torch, and The Thing respectively in their astronaut outfits, then heading off in a big spaceship, with the final shot being their main bad guy, the ever-giant Galactus hovering above Earth.

How desperate is Marvel to get bums in seats? Desperate enough to bring back Robert Downey Jr. for Avengers 5 as... Doctor Doom?

Oh dear, it looks like Disney is a bit worried about the future of the MCU, as it's bringing back Robert Downey Jr… but as fan favourite villain Doctor Doom.

I'm over in the UK, so when I went to bed last night knowing that Marvel's Comic-Con panel was happening, I thought to myself "how bad could it be?" It felt obvious that the company was going to pull something big, given that it hasn't been at San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H in a little while, and considering the fact that the MCU has been waning in popularity in recent years. Deadpool & Wolverine might be on track for a great opening, but Ant-Man 3 and The Marvels both struggled at the box office, at least compared to earlier entries in the franchise. So how is Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige plan to fix this? Well to start, he's bringing back Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directing duo the Russo Brothers to helm the next couple of Avengers films.

Avengers 5 even has a brand new name, because yes, Marvel is no longer going down the Kang route after accusations of assault and harassment were placed upon Jonathon Majors, accusations he was later found guilty for. Now, Avengers 5 will be called Avengers: Doomsday. Yes, that is because Doctor Doom will be the big bad, as previous reports indicated - and he'll be the big bad through to the following Avengers film, Secret Wars, too. Here comes the second thing Feige is doing to get people back on board with the MCU - he's brought back Iron Man/ Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. to play Doctor Doom.

Riot Games' Michael Sherman peels back the curtain on 2XKO's competitive future

Fighting games are one of those genres where the competitive scene - that brutal arena where the game's best battle it out - is tied by the waist to the general gaming experience. This means that 2XKO, Riot Games' upcoming fighter due to have its first public alpha test this August, will inevitably have tournaments hosted around the world. The question of how Riot Games intends to step into the competitive fighting game space is frankly something that will have a widespread effect on the player base.

It's also a peculiar and intriguing topic. Riot Games has previously taken a very hands-on approach to managing the competitive spaces around games like League of Legends and Valorant, whereas as the fighting game scene has proven itself capable of building communities regardless of developer support. There's a justified belief that the community itself knows best, and that the best hands to grow a grassroots competitive scene belong to the tournament organizers who've been doing it for decades, rather than those with corporate backgrounds.

Even so, Riot Games has proven eager to hop in. Not only has the team behind 2XKO hosted private meetings with players and tournament organizers, but they've also hired former pro-players and TOs to the development team. The game was first made available at Evo, rather than a Riot event. Right now at least, there appears to be a genuine desire to work alongside pre-existing fighting game infrastructure, a sentiment echoed widely by the team.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza shows a lot of tattooing and brooding in its first teaser trailer, but not much else

Prime Video has released the first teaser trailer for its live-action take on the Yakuza series, Like a Dragon, but don't expect too much from it.

We're very much in the age of video game adaptations at the moment, with shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, and films like the Super Mario Bros. Movie finding a lot of success. So it was no surprise when Sega and Amazon announced Like a Dragon: Yakuza, the latest live-action take on the beloved game series, last month. Now, at San Diego Comic-Con, Amazon has released the show's first trailer and it… doesn't show us all that much. There's plenty of shots of protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, portrayed by Ryoma Takeuchi this time around, getting his iconic tattoo done, as well as a few other shots of men looking very serious - one of them even sheds a tear - but it's hard to garner what the show will actually be like.

The Yakuza series does of course have its serious moments, but it's also filled with a lot of silliness too, which this trailer is severely lacking in. Let's hope a full trailer will help make the tone a bit clearer than this one, but it looks promising enough all the same. Like a Dragon: Yakuza's official logline explains: "Spanning across 1995 and 2005, the series follows the lives of childhood friends, and the repercussions of the decisions of Kazuma Kiryu, a fearsome and peerless Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity." It was also announced that Kiryu's main companion, Akira Nishikiyama, also just known as Nishiki, will be played by Kento Kaku.

Don't start spiralling: the anime adaptation of Junji Ito horror classic Uzumaki finally has a release date

The first teaser trailer for the anime adaptation of Junji Ito's Uzumaki is here, and it's looking like it could be one of the best takes on his works yet.

Out of all of Ito's works, there are two that could be described as his most iconic. One is Tomie, a series about an immortal woman that drives those that fall in love with her. And the other, of course, is Uzumaki, a series about a town that is overcome with… uh, spirals! It's scarier than it sounds, I promise. The classic manga has actually previously received a live-action film adaptation back in 2000, as well as a couple of video game adaptations, but it had never received an anime adaptation. That's technically still the case, as it's not out yet, but after years of waiting, the first trailer for the series finally dropped at San Diego Comic-Con this week, confirming that it will be airing on Adult Swim's Toonami this coming September 28.

You can check out the first teaser trailer for the series above, which is mostly just a compilation of ominous, occasionally spiral-filled shots, but it's a strong first look. You'll obviously quickly notice that the series has opted for a completely black-and-white look, a rarity amongst anime adaptations, but for something like Uzumaki, I can't think of a better creative choice. Sure, colour can add a lot to some adaptations, but Ito's work is particularly striking because it's in black and white, and to see that realised in anime form makes this a very exciting series even ignoring how much of a classic it is.

Marvel Rivals reminds me of pre-identity crisis Overwatch in the best possible way, but it's far from ready

I wasn't sure about Marvel Rivals after its initial announcement and previews, but the closed beta is giving me hope that something acceptable could come out of this one despite some glaring issues that need to addressed.

It's hard to deny Overwatch 2 has been struggling for a long time now, and depending on who you ask, the same could be said about Blizzard's once astonishingly attractive hero-shooter IP as a whole. The truth is that things started to spiral downwards after the first two years or so of Overwatch, after the powers that be deemed it wasn't enough to welcome players of all skill levels and grow from there, and instead started chasing eSports-related growth. Now, OW2, despite some recent wins, continues to feel like a shell of its former self, and Marvel and NetEase's shameless take on the formula might just be what many of us have been missing for years.

I must agree with my mate Connor in that Marvel Rivals very much feels like a reskin of Overwatch, but depending on which stage of Overwatch it's trying to copy, that might be a good thing, as the current iteration of OW2 (it even feels wrong to treat it as a sequel) isn't very good. Marvel and NetEase are just looking for that sweet hero-shooter money, right as most hero shooters and other live-service gambles are visibly starting to die out. All these recent developments are hard to predict, however, and harder to anticipate if we consider how long AA and AAA development usually takes nowadays unless you're a studio full of dev wizards (there are some fascinating cases).

HunterxHunter NenxImpact preview: Not the prettiest dish, but rich with sauce

HunterXHunter NenXImpact asks an interesting question: how important are looks for a fighting game's success? The game is a down-dirty brawl, hilariously fun and easy to pick up. But, at the same time, it's not exactly a looker. Getting hands on with the game at Evo 2024 I can safely say it's now one of my most anticipated games this year, but how well it will actually do remains a mystery to me.

The game comes from the wild minds at Eighting, a beloved entity in the world of fighting games. The company has previously made legendary hits like Marvel vs Capcom 3, madcap romps like DNF Duel, and peak nonsense like Fate Unlimited Codes. It's a favourite of mine - a developer willing to throw mass appeal to the wind in favour of truly exciting fighters with absurd combos and luscious depth. Brilliant to play and hilarious to watch, NenXImpact is in the same boat. Eighting has done it again.

A 3v3 team fighter, those familiar with Eighting's history may suspect the game to play like Marvel vs Capcom 3, but it's not as comparable as you might expect. Slower and not as daunting to hop into, the game is more like Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid in terms of feel and pace. You're still rushing around at wild speeds, linking high-flying combos with powerful assists, but from my brief play period it seems more tamed. Though, give it a few months post-release and I'm certain players will be able to push NenXImpact to its limits.

New Elden Ring boss just dropped in the real world

A new Elden Ring boss may have just dropped in the real world, after people much smarter than me have discovered that Komodo dragons — the largest (living) lizard out there, that we know of — have iron-coated teeth. This is metal as f**k, if you ask me.

Komodo dragons are renowned Apex predators, and often sit high at the top of the food chain wherever you find them. It’s easy enough to believe given that these hostile albeit beautiful creatures can weigh over 300 pounds, have been known to attack humans (rarely), and will sometimes even eat each other.

The discovery that these fellas have iron-coated teeth is the cherry on top for why Komodo dragons can be so formidable, with the orange iron that covers the serrated edges and tips of their teeth making them exceptionally sharp. We know that these beasts will tear flesh from their prey, and their newly-discovered iron coatings go a long way in explaining how the creature is able to maintain its pearly whites throughout its lifespan.

Twisters co-star Glen Powell seemingly confirms Top Gun 3 is happening sooner than we expected

To say Top Gun: Maverick was a massive hit back in 2022 is an understatement. It landed a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and went on to shockingly earn almost $1.5 billion worldwide after one of the longest theatrical runs of the post-pandemic era. Of course, Paramount Pictures wants to keep the now-series going, but Tom Cruise's schedule was a bit of a problem. Now, Twisters co-star Glen Powell, who had a major secondary role in Maverick, is giving us some hope that the threequel may happen sooner rather than later.

Earlier this year, Powell didn't play into online rumors about the threequel heating up at Paramount and Skydance. Now, however, his tune has changed (via Variety), seemingly signaling that things are starting to move fast.

"I mean, I have a date," Powell said regarding a return to fighter jets for Top Gun 3 during the episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast with his Twisters co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones. Whether that means he's starting physical prep or going back into pilot school well ahead of filming remains to be seen, but it's worth noting, as everyone was under the assumption that the next Top Gun would take a while to get going. In fact, producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently told everyone to calm down.

Elden Ring itself and Shadow of the Erdtree have now been beaten in one go solely via killer hedgehog cosplay, and it took less than 13 hours

Ok, you remember that Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns incantation FromSoft showed off as part of the official images for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree we got long before it came out. Yeah, the one that turns your Tarnished into a hedgehog, kinda? Well, someone's now beaten the entirety of the base game and the DLC using just that, in less than 13 hours.

To be fair, given that Shadow of the Erdtree has already been beaten on its own by a streamer on a dance pad, who then went on to merk Messmer or two devices at once, we probably shouldn't be too surprised.

This time, Elden Ring challenge run specialist Distortion2 was up to the plate, having decided to use what they themselves describe as "one of the worst spells" in the game, to beat every boss from Margit, to the Elden Beast, and then Promised Consort Radahn.

After Game Pass made me fall in love with this Slay the Spire-like on Xbox, one of the best roguelike deckbuilders out there is finally coming to PlayStation 5

You know, when I first booted up Monster Train back in 2020, I rolled my eyes. “Oh, a Slay the Spire clone, is it?” I chided. But within about 10 minutes, Monster Train had completely derailed all those pithy little putdowns that were gestating in the back of my head. In under half an hour, it had punched my ticket, good and proper. This is no mere clone of Mega Crit’s 2019 deck-building opus, no. It’s a fully-fledged competitor; a competent rethinking of the genre, a serious rival that legitimised roguelike deck-builders as a genre. And I fell in love with it.

The game remixes Slay the Spire’s genius ideas with its own, unique flair. Instead of pushing forward to the heart of all evil in Slay the Spire, Monster Train flips the script somewhat – and has you defending against waves of angelic foes that are dead set on extingusihing the fire you’re chaperoning to the heart of the underworld in order to rekindle the flames of hell (yes, really).

It’s got more of a tower defense vibe to it, then; setting you and your team of demons against other teams of behorned baddies. It’s a less lonely affair than Slay the Spire, where your lone warrior/thief/robot pushes into the hostile world.

PS5 beta firmware brings the slim model its first exclusive feature, adds something teased way back at PS5 reveal

Sony has begun rolling out a new PlayStation 5 firmware update beta, and it’s one with somewhat of an unusual set of features. The new beta mainly includes three features that enhance what’s already there in interesting new ways.

Perhaps the most interesting (and longest in development) is the ability for the PS5 to create custom 3D audio profiles for each user based on the unique characteristics of their ears.

Michael Bay is developing a Skibidi Toilet movie and TV franchise, and I think the cultural apocalypse is almost here

After Five Nights at Freddy's success on the big screen, it only makes sense that Hollywood studios are scrambling to find the next hit which may convince Generation Alpha to leave their computers and phones for a bit and visit the nearest cinema. However, trying to make a franchise out of the brain-rotting viral Internet sensation Skibidi Toilet might be a bit too much.

Variety shared an exclusive interview with filmmaker Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures president Adam Goodman on July 24. The main subject of the conversation? They're seriously looking at Skibidi Toilet as something with movie and TV potential.

If you aren't a teenager, chances are you don't know what the hell we're blabbering about here, so let us give you a quick rundown of Skibidi Toilet lore: In a general sense, Skibidi Toilet is a machinima web series of YouTube videos and shorts that have been created by Alexey Gerasimov and uploaded to the channel DaFuq!?Boom!. These were produced using Valve's handy Source Filmmaker, and while the series started as kind of a joke, it's somehow evolved into a story that presents a fictional war between human-headed toilets and humanoid characters with electronic devices for heads.

Good news, Hideo Kojima and also other people, that anime from your favourite shirt is getting a slice-of-life miniseries ahead of its second season

Lycoris Recoil, one of 2022's most popular anime original series, is getting a miniseries to help tide you over while you wait for season 2.

Most of the time, anime that aren't based on manga don't end up being nearly as popular as series that are, but in 2022 Lycoris Recoil beat the odds. It was so good that even Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima couldn't help but sing its praises, and he even got matching shirts to wear with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn (who is also obviously the face model of Heartman in Death Stranding). If you're reading this, Kojima - or if you're just a fan of the anime - I have some good news! The official Japanese Twitter account for Lycoris Recoil announced yesterday that a six-episode miniseries focusing on the daily lives of Chisato, Takina, and others is on the way.

Lycoris Recoil director Shingo Adachi will be supervising the six episodes, with each of them featuring different people on directorial and storyboarding duties. Original character designer Imigimuru is also in charge of some of the scripts too. There aren't any more details other than that, though a sneak peak was shown in the tweet, which you can see above.

Oh boy, Helldivers 2's Escalation of Freedom update already has would-be Super parents brainstorming Terminid baby names

Following yesterday's announcement of Helldivers 2's "biggest update yet", Escalation of Freedom, there's a lot to get excited about ahead of its arrival on August 6. Though, one of the new mission types that's set to arrive has players already doing something a bit bizarre — coming up with names for the Terminid babies they'll be carrying.

If you missed the update's reveal, you can check out a run-down of what it includes here — it should be music to your ears, especially if you've been desperate for a fresh challenge difficulty-wise or just in the form of new enemies. Meanwhile, if you've been thinking the game needs a bit more of a Death Stranding-style twist to it, you're also in luck.

You see, one of the new mission types outlined in the trailer below sees you tasked with picking up a little test-tube backpack and successfully delivering it to the extraction point. The problem is that it contains a Terminid larva, which'll make your job a harder by attracting swarms of protective bugs to attack you via its cries.

Former NBA Street devs are looking to do what EA won't - new studio to make spiritual successor to fan favourite

Former NBA Street developers from EA have broken off from the video game giant to form their own studio and create a spiritual successor to the beloved basketball game. The game, titled The Run: Got Next, will be developed at the brand-new Play by Play Studios. The game itself is set to release in 2025 for Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Speaking to IGN on the game's reveal, co-founder of Play by Play Studios and former Madden creative director Mike Young talked about the developer's attitude towards the NBA Street Legacy, "There was a lot of us that worked on NBA Street that always wanted to bring it back. I think it is difficult for a company that has a game like a Madden or an NBA Live that is so big. If you're putting all your resources to that, I think it was challenging to think about a secondary game," Young says.

"I was there when the Tiburon Studio brought back [NFL Blitz]. Some of the things I've seen in the past, they're just nostalgia plays and they kind of haven't evolved to a modern game. I think they don't have staying power, so they have to come out at a smaller price point. You may only attract the people who liked them, and then they play it for a weekend or a couple of weeks or bring it out every once in a while..."

Robert Pattinson's Batman universe finally has a name, and it is quite possibly the name of your best friend in high-school

The world of Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's The Batman finally has a name, and it could very well be the name of one of your old mates. Maybe. Sort of.

Right now, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn is building out the new DC cinematic universe, with Superman set to kick things off next year. But, there were a couple of films based on DC properties that were popular enough to warrant their own sequels, despite not being connected to the old or new DCU. These films are set in DC's Elseworlds, projects that won't be connected to the DCU in anyway, but still adapt something from DC's library, with Joker 2 is coming up later this year, set in its own little chaotic corner of Gotham, and of course a sequel to The Batman is on the way. Before either of those releases, though, The Batman is getting a TV-show spinoff in the form of The Penguin, due out this September. And now, director Matt Reeves has slapped a name on his take on Gotham: BECS.

You remember Becs right? Rebecca, from your science class, you were super close before the incident? OK, much like Becs is short for Rebecca, BECS is short for "Batman Epic Crime Saga" a title that Reeves shared in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. With a name like that, you'd possibly assume that Reeves and his producing partner Dylan Clark would want to launch a whole universe of projects - and you'd be exactly right. As mentioned, that universe-expansion kicks off with The Penguin.

No, The First Descendant is not turning every Outpost into a loot cave farming spot

The First Descendant’s first couple of weeks have been a little tumultuous, mostly because of the game’s excessive monetisation schemes and the in-game grind required to unlock its various characters, craft weapons and get the gear you need for higher-level content.

This is a live service game, though, and if there’s one thing those players love, it’s optimising their runs to be as efficient as possible to make farming less annoying. Some of those can be benign; relying on unbalanced systems and combinations, rather than exploits.

Over the past few days, however, the community shifted from the former to the latter.

Looking forward to all those big Deadpool & Wolverine cameos? Don't expect all of them to be real, as it looks like Marvel might have been lying about some of them

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to feature plenty of cameos, but a few of them might be some red herrings from Marvel.

Over several Deadpool & Wolverine trailers, it's become clear that its multiversal story will have more than one cameo from X-Men films past, with a really big one having been revealed in the film's final trailer (seriously, you might not want to watch that one if you're particularly spoiler averse). There has also been reports of numerous other characters that are set to appear in the film, with their original actors reprising their roles, but according to a recent interview with GamesRadar, the film's executive producer Wendy Jacobson has shared that a few of them might have been planted fake leaks to throw fans off the scent of its actual cameos.

Jacobson told GamesRadar that "there may or may not have been some subterfuge and misdirections on the internet or in-person in order to protect the secrecy." She went on to say that she "can neither confirm nor deny any cameos in this film but I will say, in terms of characters that may or may not appear, it was always important to us that nothing in this movie feels like a gimmick. Anyone showing up has a crucial story purpose or a beginning, middle, and end as a character arc. It was definitely a collaborative process of seeing who fit in and who didn't."

Want to get in on Helldivers 2's latest Major Order? You'd better hurry, as it's about killing a billion bugs and over a hundred million are already toast

Oh no, you'd better run to Helldivers 2 as fast as you can. There's another Major Order about killing a bunch of things, and it's looking like it'll be over before you can say 'slow down Super Earth, you're supposed to savour it a bit or you might get indigestion'.

In case you don't get what I'm on about, Helldivers 2's player base has worked very hard to cultivate a reputation of being able to murder death things in incredibly rapid fashion. The first time it happened, people were so confused they started trying to do maths. More recently, they blew through an entire MO in one evening and then started wondering if Arrowhead had accidentally set the required kills total too low. These people do not play - well, they do, but you get what I mean.

After landing some temporary free mech ride tickets via their last victory, the MO that's followed is a nice break from both fighting to control planets and battling the automatons. "Following the Helldivers' inspiringly rapid support of the Terminid Research Initiative, the Ministry of Science has requested a second, much larger research trial," it reads. "A key finding of the first research phase was that Terminid E-710 yield is significantly increased if harvested following periods of extreme duress.

"We have a lot more control" 2XKO's Tony Cannon speaks on server-based online, Vanguard anti-cheat, and more

Evo 2024 has wrapped up, and while thousands of attendees all turned up to play and spectate their favourite fighting game, lines were long to try out the latest build of one not-yet revealed. 2XKO, Riot Games' upcoming fighter turned up at the show in a big way, and with it came new information. But one aspect remains interesting and largely untouched: the tech behind the game and why it matters.

Who better to talk about this than Tony Cannon. Creator for GGPO rollback netcode back in 2009, Tony has been somewhat of a striking figure in the pursuit of better online play in fighting games. These days, he's working as 2XKO's tech lead, and was gracious enough to sit down for a 10-minute chat on the Evo show floor.

First up, for a while now the 2XKO team has been eager to share that server-based rollback will be a major component of 2XKO. But what does that actually mean, and how does it differ from regular rollback?

Riot's fighting game 2XKO will use Vanguard anti-cheat

Speaking to VG247 at Evo 2024, 2XKO tech lead Tony Cannon has confirmed that Riot Game's upcoming fighting game will feature Vanguard, the company's own kernel-level anti-cheat software.

Tony stated the following, "A lot of the cheats we see in fighting games are either about reading inputs, reading game state, or injecting inputs. They involve modifying the game binary in some way. Vanguard is really good at that, right? It's a kernel-level anti-cheat, so it can detect and prevent a lot of those things happening."

Vanguard was first implemented into Riot games with Valorant back in 2020, back has since been implemented into League of Legends with hopes that its addition would help tackle the game's ongoing cheating and botting problems. However, such software has proven controversial among a portion of the players, due in part to the fundamental intrusiveness of kernel-level software.

Stardew Valley's creator has been releasing plenty of free updates in the eight years since its release, and "on the honor" of their family name, they promise they always will be

Ever since it launched in 2016, every Stardew Valley update has been free, and Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone has no intention of changing that.

Stardew Valley has had a lot of longevity over the past eight years, in part because of its devoted fandom and large amount of replayability, but also because ConcernedApe has consistently released big updates for the game with lots of new content. Some updates have been bigger than others, of course, but they've kept players coming back. The big thing, though, is that they've always been free - you won't pay a single penny more for the game outside of the $15 it costs you when you first buy it. And, as spotted by GamesRadar, ConcernedApe has made it clear on his personal Twitter that no matter what, he will never, ever charge for DLC or an update.

ConcernedApe recently explained that the 1.6 update that PC players have had access to for a while is still in the works for the game's ports to other platforms, including PC and mobile. "I have personally been working on the mobile port every day," ConcerenedApe explained. "I will announce when there is any meaningful news." In response to this, one fan said that as long as everything the developer does is completely free, people won't complain for the wait, thanking ConcernedApe for the dedication to Stardew Valley.

Guilty Gear Strive season 4 finally reveals fan favourite Dizzy is back, as well as its first guess fighter... uh, Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?

Arc System Works accidentally revealed what's in store for Guilty Gear Strive season 4, and it's a packed trailer with a whole lot of reveals.

You've been waiting three years, but finally your time has come Dizzy fans: the beloved character is the first character coming to Guilty Gear Strive as part of the game's fourth season - well, technically, as fans discovered the trailer had been published unlisted on YouTube, but has since been made private. This time round she's specifically called Queen Dizzy, sporting a new regal look, which I'm sure will mean something to all the lore heads out there, and she's out this coming October. Unlike previous season pass reveals, though, Arc System Works didn't stop at just one character reveal - nope, the whole roster was shown off, and the other reveals will probably make you go "hell yeah! Ok cool! Sorry, what?" in that exact order.

After Dizzy is Venom, also donning a new, very smart look, who is set to return to the game early 2025. Unsurprisingly, the third character is a brand new one, Unika, who you'll recognise from the upcoming Guilty Gear Strive anime Dual Riders. There's no word on when the anime is set to air, but she's due out in 2025, so we can probably assume the anime will be as well. And lastly, the fourth and final character will actually be the series' first guest spot, and it's going to none other than Lucy from the anime adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

The devs behind Silent Hill: The Short Message have a new game in the works, Niraya of ■■ - and yes, that's actually what it's called

HexaDrive, the developers behind Silent Hill: The Short Message, have a new game in the works with a bit of an odd title.

Earlier this year, Konami published its first Silent Hill game in many years, The Short Message, but the developer didn't actually make it itself. The game was actually outsourced to HexaDrive, a developer that's been making games for other studios for years, like the Square Enix published The Third Birthday, as well as the Nintendo 3DS port of Metal Gear Solid 3. Now, it's working on its very own horror title, Niraya of ■■, which yes, as of right now, is the title of the game (thanks, Eurogamer). Who knows if a full title reveal will come somewhere down the line, but we'll stick with just Niraya for now.

You can check out the trailer for the game above, which looks very early on in development, but the game's Steam page explains it in more detail. "Niraya of ■■ is a Japanese horror game inspired by the Buddhist beliefs of the Kamakura period," the Steam page reads. "The game focuses on a unique system where players "avoid" the attacks of various monsters, rather than defeating or hiding from them. This, combined with the fear of exploring eerie environments and solving puzzles, is a major draw of the game."

I can't wait to cry my eyes out when Dragon Ball Daima finally releases in October

A new trailer for the upcoming Dragon Ball anime Daima has dropped, and it's brought a release month along with it.

Earlier this week, Toei Animation shared a new look at Dragon Ball Daima, revealing some new characters that Goku and co will have to face off against. These new characters include Glorio, the blue fella who looks like he has it out for Goku, Gomah, a funny looking evil clown guy (and presumably this series' big bad), and Masked Majin, who's a bit more mysterious. Miniature versions of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and the Supreme Kai all make an appearance, the latter most seeming to be quite prominent alongside Goku, so it's possible the Kais will be important somehow this time around.

Unfortunately, Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, passed away earlier this year at the age of 68, making Daima his final project, and the last time he will have worked on the series in an official capacity. Before he passed, he shared a comment about it, saying: "Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world.

"It often discriminates against people" Mortal Kombat 1 champion SonicFox speaks on Esports World Cup woes

Earlier today, SonicFox took the first-place prize in Mortal Kombat 1 at Evo 2024. However, while their peers are sponsored and traveling across the globe with the assistance of major gaming organizations, they remain a free agent. A key reason? The Esports World Cup.

Speaking to VG247 during a post-victory press scrum, we asked SonicFox to share their thoughts on the growing presence of the Saudi-Government-funded Esports World Cup within the FGC. To this, they shared the following:

"I'm very vocal about this in terms of the Esports World Cup. Unfortunately, people like me and other transgender people, a lot of folks like us straight up can't compete. I don't think it's actually a good idea to work with them (referring to the Saudi Government). While I think the money is nice - it's life-changing money for some people - I don't actually think it's a good idea to have this overwhelming government support in the FGC, because what often happens is it discriminates against people."

Soulframe gets brand-new gameplay showcase at Tennocon, plus a fall 2024 open beta release

Soulframe got a new gameplay demo earlier today, and with it an open beta announcement. All interested players will be able to jump in and try the game out sometime in fall 2024.

The gameplay demo itself, which took viewers through the early moments of the game (including character creation), flowed into some combat as well as basic exploration. In basic terms, it's a straightforward demo aimed at giving potential players an idea of the general vibe and gameplay experience present in Soulframe.

The open beta - named a prelude - will allow players to jump into an early version of the game for free. Progress won't be permanent, but for those keen to get in at the earliest opportunity it'll allow for acclimation to the game's systems and world. Who doesn't need another MMO?

Marvel must not care about spoilers anymore, because Deadpool & Wolverine's final trailer is full of them

Marvel was desperate for you to not be spoiled ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it seems like it just doesn't care when it comes to Deadpool & Wolverine.

Look, I'm going to say it right out the gate: don't watch the final trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine if you plan to see it in cinemas. I know it's fun to get hyped for a film you're excited for, especially one as anticipated as this one that's finally out next week (and is the only Marvel film due out this year). It's just got some really big spoilers in there that would have been fun reveals for the final film, and even if there's some setup for the future of the MCU - isn't there always - they're moments that will be significant for longtime fans of specifically Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. On the other hand, if you don't care, you can watch the trailer below (oh, and spoiler warning for the contents of the trailer from this point on).

You see, there's two key things the trailer spoils here. For one, as it turns out, no, this version of Wolverine isn't actually the Fox Wolverine we've been familiar with for the past two and a half decades. He is from a different universe after all, as some fans have been wondering, where things seem to have gone to absolute hell. In turn, another reveal that maybe would have been cool to discover in the cinema, is the fact that Dafne Keen is reprising her role as X-23 from Logan, the fan favourite X-Men film.

Microsoft doesn't quite agree with the FTC's recent comments, says no, Xbox Game Pass isn't "degraded" following price hike

The Federal Trade Commission recently expressed that it has some issues with the recent Xbox Game Pass price hike, but Microsoft unsurprisingly disagrees.

Earlier this month, Microsoft finally pulled the trigger, and announced it was making Xbox Game Pass more expensive. That'll likely be in part because of a lack of subscriber growth, as well as the fact that it did just spend a whole bunch of money on Activision Blizzard earlier this year (gotta get that Call of Duty money somewhere, after all). But the FTC, which tried to put a stop to the acquisition last year, recently made some comments about the price increase, alleging "product degradation." These comments came as part of a recent filing from the FTC with the US Court of Appeals, claiming Microsoft is "exercising market power post-merger" and unsurprisingly, in a response to this filing, the tech company has flat out disagreed.

In a letter sent to the court, via The Verge's Tom Warren, Microsoft claims that the FTC "presents a misleading, extra-record account of the facts and is a continuation of the agency's attempts to reinvent its case on appeal." It also notes that it's unfair to call the new Game Pass Standard tier a "'degraded' version of the discontinued Game Pass for Console offering" because it didn't offer "multiplayer functionality". For Game Pass Ultimate, it also argued that "the service will offer more value through many new games available 'day-and-date'" in particular Call of Duty, which it notes "has never before been available on a subscription day-and-date."

You really shouldn’t have already written off Concord on PS5 and PC; it's the fascinating mix of Team Fortress 2 and Destiny that you never knew you needed

The Concord beta is opening its doors this weekend for everyone, and I can't wait to jump back into it after last weekend's test, which is something I wasn't expecting to say.

I was as baffled as most viewers by the game's confusing reveal in June, which spent a few minutes trying to convince players we were learning about a new AAA, single-player sci-fi adventure only to drop a first-look gameplay on us that looked like every riff on Overwatch that's come and gone without glory for the last eight years or so. After spending five or six hours with the beta, however, I'm really vibing with its identity and firmly believe PlayStation and Firewalk Studios just fumbled the initial marketing push.

Mind you, even a cheeky alternative to Overwatch, now dubbed 'Overwatch 2' and offered as a free-to-play title in hopes of returning the IP to its former glory after several creative missteps, would be half-attractive with a firm, solid playable approach that came across as different enough. That first gameplay reveal, however, felt like a mix of "we have Guardians of the Galaxy at home" meets the Overwatch clones that have struggled to make an impact over and over again. Moreover, the $40 price tag on Concord is scary even if the promise is avoiding shite MTX altogether in the future (press X to doubt).

After half a year of layoffs and closures, more than 240 Bethesda workers come together to unionise

It's a big day for the labour movement in the games industry, as 241 Bethesda staffers have formed a union.

Yesterday evening, Bethesda Game Studios workers announced it had formed a union under the Communication Workers of America (CWA), making it the first studio to fully do so since being acquired by Microsoft. Bethesda Montreal filed for unionisation last month, and QA workers at Zenimax, Bethesda's parent company, did the same in 2023, but with the Dallas, Rockville, and Austin sites forming this union, the entirety of US-based Bethesda studios have now unionised. It's also the first "wall-to-wall" union at a Microsoft video game studio, as of the 241 workers that have unionised, there are members "including artists, engineers, programmers and designers have either signed a union authorization card or indicated that they wanted union representation."

In a statement, senior system designer and member of the CWA Mandi Parker said, "We are so excited to announce our union at Bethesda Game Studio and join the movement sweeping across the video game industry. It is clear that every worker can benefit from bringing democracy into the workplace and securing a protected voice on the job. We’re thrilled to get down to brass tacks and win a fair contract, proving that our unity is a source of real power to positively shape our working conditions, our lives, and the company as a whole."

Helldivers 2 has been transformed into a 16-bit arcade classic via a demake concept, and its creators would be open to making it a proper mini-game

If you've ever wondered what Helldivers 2 might have looked like if it'd come out back in the 90s, as a lot of the media that inspires its central themes and narratives did, you're in luck. Some fans have made a concept for a 16-bit demake of it, and would even be open to working with Arrowhead to make their creation an actual in-game activity.

While the fresh Major Orders keep rolling in, some divers have been a bit distracted lately by datamines and potential warbond leaks. Sadly, by showing you this, I doubt I'll be helping increase your focus on routing the Automatons now the strategy of dividing their forces in two has worked.

Without further adieu, here's 64 Bits' Helldivers 2 demake for Neo Geo/Arcades, which you can watch a video of below. While it's just a teaser of a project that's been in the works over on Newgrounds, it's been put together by a team that've got plenty of experience doing this kind of thing.

A Monopoly Go version of regular Monopoly is now a thing, because Hasbro's still banking on its monopoly on Monopoly

Hello there. You know Monopoly Go, that mobile game that has more players than any of us will ever have hot dinners? Well, Hasbro and Scopely have been working on making a version of regular Monopoly - you know, the physical board game that's been causing minor tiffs between families since at least the 1930s - based on the mobile game version.

Sorry if that's confused you, it's not your fault. Here, at least let me help you understand why this has been announced and is happening (thanks, Polygon). The answer, in a nutshell, is the primarly objective of monopoly itself - trying to make some cash.

Monopoly Go Monopoly follows on from the array of Monopolies already out there - including Cats Monopoly, Monopoly: Fortnite, Squishmallows Monopoly, and the HM Queen Elizabeth II Monopoly game that's rather taken on a different significance since 2022 (we're not trying to hawk any of these as of writing, at least as far as I know, you just need evidence that they exist).

Fallout: London is back in Team FOLON's hands after seemingly getting the green light from GOG, but its project lead says "please don't get over excited"

Massive Fallout 4 mod Fallout: London's developers have confirmed that their creation is back in their hands and is "no longer down to GOG", but are urging prospective players not to get too excited quite yet.

Team FOLON had previously revealed that the mod had been sent off to the PC storefront, which is distributing it, for some final QA testing. GOG also recently confirmed to us that the mod won't work with Epic Games store-bought copies of Fallout 4 at launch.

Now, the team has confirmed via Fallout: London's Discord server that the mod is back in its hands, but has warned that this doesn't mean fans should get overly hyped up about the release being directly imminent quite yet, as there are still some things that'll need sorting before that happens.

Splitgate 2 arrives in 2025, so you can look forward to attending another fun wedding between Halo and Portal

Hello. Remember Splitgate? Well, its sequel, Splitgate 2, has just been revealed and is set to arrive in 2025.

If you missed the boat on the original, it was a pretty big thing for a hot minute a few years ago, thanks to being a fun shooter with gameplay that pretty much answered any questions you might have had about what would happen if a Halo game and a Portal game loved each other very much, went into a bedroom, and, er, cuddled a bit.

As detailed in a fresh PlayStation blog, Splitgate 2 is set to arrive in 2025, and will build on the original thanks to a beefier budget and a larger roster of developers.

Fans have noticed Netflix's Devil May Cry anime finally answers one of the series’ most important questions

Devil May Cry already had an anime adaptation back in 2007, but Netflix is giving it another go with Adi Shankar (Castlevania) as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. While we've been eagerly waiting for news on it for months now, fans continue to uncover new details in the last piece of footage released in late 2023.

The discovery isn't even that big, but nobody had pointed out something that was hiding in plain sight in the BTS featurette. It comes from r/DevilMayCry, where user Weekly-Talk-9959 pointed out a few in-progress shots, as well as the complete one we've used as the article's main image, clearly show a sword strap on Dante's back.

This may not seem like a big deal, especially for gamers who haven't really delved into the famous character action, hack n' slash video game series, but fans had been wondering for a very long time how the hell Dante's sword stayed vertically on his back, which, to be fair, isn't something that only affects the DMC games. Mind you, Devil May Cry is all about demons, over-the-top action, and all kinds of crazy stuff, so who cares anyway? Well, it seems like some creatives did.

There's finally a Starfield mod that'll let you hang out solo or with your crew in Star Wars' iconic Mos Eisley Cantina

It looks to have taken a lot longer than we all might have initially expected, but there's finally a Starfield mod that adds Star Wars' Mos Eisley Cantina to the game as a fully-fledged location you can hang out in between those new-ish bounty missions.

While modders had to spend a lot of time waiting for the game's creation kit to drop, which it finally did last month, there've already been a tonne of works put out to help folks turn the game into a Star Wars one, something that was guaranteed to be a desire pretty much the moment it was announced. While all of the ship replicas and lightsabers have been nice, hopefully the mod I'm about to tell you about can be the start of things really being taken to the next level in terms of galaxy, far, far away roleplay, even if Star Wars Outlaws is due out soon.

As far as I can tell, Kaffeinaa's 'Mos Eisleys Cantina (Akila)' (it's also available for Xbox here) is the first proper go a modder's had at re-creating the place where Greedo definitely shoots at Han Solo first in the game. Well, depending on if you count the cantina band's tunes being added to the jukebox of The Rock's bar, so the Freestar Rangers can enjoy them.

Marvel Studios will play it safe with Avengers 5 and 6, as the Russo Brothers are set to return as directors

Sorry if you wanted a new visual style for the next two Avengers movies, because we're returning to what once worked extremely well with the Russo Brothers. Honestly, after about three rough years for Marvel Studios and Disney, who can blame them?

The Hollywood Reporter shared this news, firmly saying that early talks are ongoing, but the deal seems pretty much locked in. For the filmmakers, who departed the House of M after two fantastic Captain America sequels and two era-defining Avengers entries that became two of the highest-grossing movies of all time, this is also a positive development, as their post-Endgame directing work (Cherry and The Gray Man) has been nothing but a big disappointment.

"The hiring ends a months-long, high-stakes search by the studio for filmmakers to oversee the fifth and sixth Avengers movies," THR adds. That much is true, as we've been hearing plenty of wild rumors and reports ever since Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton departed Avengers 5, once titled The Kang Dynasty, before Jonathan Majors turned out to be a real-life villain. As for Secret Wars, a director was never announced.

Some info about Helldivers 2's next warbond looks to have leaked via misbehaving PlayStation notifications

A little bit of information about an unreleased Helldivers 2 warbond looks to have leaked via some PlayStation notifications that aren't doing what they're supposed to. These messages contain just a few details about a gear pack that sounds like it'll be right up the alley of twisted firestarters.

Over the past few hours, a number of players have taken to Helldivers 2 subreddit to post a PlayStation new notifaction they've recieved. In all of these posts, the ping comes with the heading Viper Commandos, which is obviously the name of the last warbond Arrowhead deployed for the game.

The text underneath that title, however, defintely seems to pertain to a different warbond, possibly the next one that's set to arrive.

The First Descendant devs really want you to stop AFK farming, and going AFK in co-op

It’s been a few days now since the release of The First Descendant. Over ten million players have jumped into the loot shooter so far, even if no one is really super happy with it. As a loot game, players have unsurprisingly begun optimising the fun out of it. This mainly means devising the most efficient ways to farm in-game, which sadly includes some questionable strategies.

Nexon, the game’s developer, is aware of all those tactics, however, and has “aksed players to please stop.

With Stranger Things almost wrapped up, Netflix taps its creators to exec produce a horror series about a wedding that goes very wrong

Stranger Things is finally coming to a close soon, and Netflix already has a project lined up for the Duffer Brothers to executive produce.

Right now, Stranger Things is filming its fifth and final season, which will wrap up an almost 10-year-long journey that really helped put Netflix on the map (not that it wasn't already doing pretty well beforehand). Now, as reported by Deadline, Netflix has given a greenlight to a new horror series, and Stranger Things' creators the Duffer Brothers are attached to executive produce the show. This new series is being created by Hayley Z. Boston, best known for having written fellow Netflix show Brand New Cherry Flavor, and an episode of Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, so the showrunner is no stranger to the horror genre.

The show is titled Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, which I'm assuming will cover exactly what it says on the tin. Its official logline reads: "Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is an atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. That’s not a spoiler - just read the title…" Weddings are generally stressful enough as it is, so to have this Romeo and Juliet-esque warning that something very bad is going to happen feels like I'm going to be on the edge of my seat right from the start (as long as it's not a load of rubbish, anyway).

Get ready for more ads on streaming services, because one study predicts almost 30% of streamers' revenue will come from them by 2028

I hope you like watching ads, because a recent study suggests they'll make up a third of streaming services' revenue in the next few years.

It was only about 10 years ago where it felt like TV was in this really promising place. Streaming services like Netflix were popular, but weren't dominating the industry just yet, there were all kinds of great bits of television being aired at the time, and your favourite shows weren't getting cancelled just because someone with a spreadsheet said a mysterious number wasn't high enough on a chart for some arbitrary reason. That's where we're at now, though, and unfortunately, despite streaming services being less convenient than ever, they're also more expensive than ever, with all the big names semi-regularly raising their prices to make up for the fact that not enough new people are subscribing.

One of the ways Netflix et al have tried to either bring people back or bring new people aboard is with a "cheaper" tier that has ads in it. Cheaper is in quotes there because you're essentially paying what you did for Netflix only a few years ago, only now you can only watch it in one house, the video quality isn't as good, and yeah, just like cable, you've got ads. And it really seems like these ad-supported tiers are the future of streaming services, as in a Global Entertainment & Media Outlook 2024-2028 study held by PricewaterhouseCoopers (via Variety), it predicted that by 2028 "advertising will make up almost 28% of all the money that streaming services make."

We've just gotten a fresh update from Larian on Baldur's Gate 3's next big update, Patch 7, which is set to arrive in September. It seems like things are still very much on track for then, with the developer having teased a bunch more stuff that it'll include or facilitate, as well as announcing that PC players can now register for a chance to playtest it via a closed beta.

Thanks to previous community updates, we already know that the patch is set to bring with it a bunch of extra evil endings and the official modding tools folks have been waiting for.

If you think that means Larian's run out of stuff to talk about and tease in Community Update 28, however, you're very wrong. Let's start with the thing you can do right now, eh?

Stop what you're doing - our first look at Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred's new Spiritborn class is coming this week

It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally going to get our first look at Diablo 4’s Spiritborn, the new class in the action RPG's Vessel of Hatred expansion, due this October. Spiritborn is a big deal for Diablo 4; not only is it the game’s first post-launch class, it’s also not based on any of the series’ known classes.

In other words, it’s brand-new for Diablo, which is exciting for a number of reasons, not least of which the fact Diablo 4 has the highest production quality of any game in the series, and certainly compared to the rest of the ARPG genre.
