The open world in Diablo 4 still adheres to a few old conventions from past Diablo titles, but players are hoping Blizzard breaks tradition when it comes to Town Portals and the Capitals they're tethered to. The Regions in Diablo 4 represent the currently playable world, but the Acts themselves correspond to a Region much more loosely than they did in Diablo 3 or Diablo 2. Though there is a numbered path to experience the main story of Diablo 4 in its assumed order, players can progress through the first three Acts however they desire.
