Starfield's exploration has made its way into the real world

Starfield fans are hard at work tracking down 1001 unique Starfield posts spread around the world, as the sci-fi RPG inches closes to launch this September. The race is on to see if the community can track them all down before the game launches on September 6. As the world wakes up today, numerous screenshots of distinct posters are being posted to the official Bethesda Discord, where everyone's discoveries are being collected. Right now, European, Middle Eastern, and Asian territories have their own channels dedicated to this real-world easter egg hunt, while the Americas are yet to join the fold. Take the UK, for example. Ever since the Discord channel was created yesterday, fans have been hard at work scrawling the London underground system for any sign of these 1001 billboards. User Illusionz managed to find and post two straight away, while other users soon sweeped up two remaining posters in other stations. These can be identified as unique ads due to clear numbering in the bottom right corner, as well as the different background present on each billboard. Read more

Diablo 4 Dev Reveals Whether Diablo Immortal’s Blood Knight Class is Coming to the Game

While the new Blood Knight class in Diablo Immortal has been an eyebrow-raiser among fans, Diablo 4 developer, Rod Fergusson, has revealed that players shouldn't expect to see the sanguine champion in the franchise's latest chapter. With Diablo 4's Season of Blood unveiled on August 22, among the myriad of fixes and quality-of-life features that it promised, the community couldn't help but notice its overt vampire theme.

PlayStation Plus' headline game for September has leaked, but it's a bit disappointing

As is tradition by this point in time, September's PlayStation Plus Essentials main game has leaked. It's another month, and another PlayStation Plus leak from billbil-kun, this time claiming that the big name title for September's Essentials tier is 2022's reboot of Saints Row. Billbil-kun noted that they couldn't fully confirm what the other two titles might be just yet, so there's a chance you'll have to wait until an official reveal on those ones. Saints Row might not be the best addition for some of you either, as for many it was one of the bigger disappointments in 2022. Across the board, the Saints Row reboot received pretty middling reviews, with our own review not being any different. One point of criticism our own James had at the time is that "you can feel like you’re doing the same thing over and over. While there are a lot of different Side Hustles and activity types, there are a lot of instances of the same activity all over the map and your businesses require around 7-ish repetitions of the same kind of mission to max out." Want an Elden Ring film? This is even better

Are you confused by Elden Ring’s lore? In that case, you clearly haven’t been watching VaatiVidya on YouTube, who has dedicated an immense amount of time and effort to produce some of the best Elden Ring lore videos available. Not just lore or Elden Ring, either. VaatiVidya has created entire movies that turn complex, scattered lore into linear storytelling for most FromSoftware games. However, their latest endeavor is ‘An Elden Ring Movie: Age of the Stars’ which tells the increasingly complicated story of everyone's favorite witch, Ranni, and her companion Blaidd the Wolf. Age of the Stars starts with a beautiful animation from Xavier Lesieu, using the artwork of John Devlin. Read more

Rumor: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Reveal Might Have Leaked New Warzone Map

While the latest looks at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 have put the spotlight on the game's single-player, some players are suggesting parts of the new Warzone map may have been accidentally shown as well. Sledgehammer Games gave a small taste of what is to come in the game's new single-player, from the traditional, linear-style missions the series is known for to the new Open Combat Missions. It was in showing off the latter of these two, though, that some players suggest the studio may have let slip the first look at the new Warzone map.

Baldur’s Gate 3 speedrunners are seeing how fast they can have sex in-game

Baldur's Gate 3 is a grand, sprawling RPG from Larian Studios that has had many of its players tied up since its release. While many of us are exploring what this fantasy world has to offer in terms of secret paths, loot, and its overarching story, some players are seeing how fast they can have sex with their companions. Fair enough. I can’t say that I’m surprised, and I can’t say that I blame them either. Some of the companions available in Baldur’s Gate 3 switch up their attitudes towards you so quickly that I’d be lying if I said my curiosity wasn’t piqued by just how fast players can go from mere acquaintances to swapping saliva. Baldur's Gate 3 proves David Cage right about LA Noire

The quality of Baldur's Gate 3 performances, and the technology and expertees used to render them so beautifully on screen, is one of the best things about it. And that’s high praise considering that there’s one hell of a lot to love about the best RPG of the decade so far. We make the case for this extraordinary work, and why it’s so crucial to recreating the D&D experience, in the video below. It’s particularly impressive because of the game’s sheer size. You could argue that there is better performance capture work elsewhere, for example in The Last of Us Part II, where millions of dollars per pixel is spent on producing photorealism in very controlled environments, most successfully in cutscenes. And it’s incredible work, no doubt. But Baldur’s Gate 3 is much wider in scope, and leaves much more up to the player in terms of where and when dialogues can be triggered, even taking into account permutations like the height of the player character (which, in a game with loads of different races, can vary wildly). So, while it isn’t as photorealistic or quite as granular as TLOU’s motion captured performances, it has a lot less control over where the player looks and a lot fewer places to hide. So, for my money it’s an incredible achievement, and a real step forward in what games of this size and scope can achieve. But a lot of that is down to the fact that BG3 is not a game that has come from the AAA studio system, as Sherif points out in his latest op-ed. The game’s development was funded partly via a long stint in early access, on the back of Larian Studios having built up enormous trust and goodwill amongst CRPG fans by simply making a lot of very good games over the years. Genshin Impact unveils your next two husbandos, Neuvillette and Wriothesley

Genshin Impact may have earned itself the nickname "Waifu Impact" back when it first launched, but the devs at HoYoverse have demonstrated a remarkable adaptability when it comes to changing direction in order to give the fans what they want. And, as it quickly transpired, Genshin fans are typically way more excited at the prospect of a buff boyfriend than a waify girlfriend (although to be fair, there's plenty of room for both in a playable roster that now contains upwards of 70 characters). Neuvillette and Wriothesley are the fourth and fifth new characters announced for Version 4, which is due to launch tomorrow (August 16) with the introduction of Fontaine, the Hydro Nation of Justice. The new characters for Version 4.0 have already been revealed as Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet, so given this latest announcement's timing it's highly likely that N and W (as I'm now calling them for short) will make their appearance on Version 4.1, expected in late September. The following character intros were released on Twitter yesterday, with a focus on the lore backgrounds of both. Neuvillette is the Chief Justice of Fontaine, because goodness knows gamers love a hot lawyer; while Wriothesley is essentially head prison warden at the Fortress of Meropide: Read more

Diablo 4 1.1.2 patch speeds up Malignant farming, fixes the damn A Boon in the Tide bug

Now that we're in the post-patch 1.1.0 era of Diablo 4, Blizzard has been making good on its promise to share patch notes ahead of the release of patches. The next update, patch 1.1.2, arrives Tuesday, August 15 on all platforms. 1.1.2 is not going to be as big as either of the recent patches, so don't expect any major balance tweaks or massive new features. Instead, the update focuses mostly on fixing bugs. That said, it does bring a welcome tweak to Malignant Heart farming. When you kill a Malignant Monster, they drop a Malignant Heart. Activating the heart (which spawns a tougher version of the same monster) used to take five seconds. After the patch, it will now take just two seconds - which should speed up that grind just a little. Read more

Will Baldur’s Gate 3 be any good on PS5?

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a runaway success on PC that has taken a lot of people – including its creators – by surprise. For the record, I always had faith that this game would be Larian’s “Witcher 3 moment” – when an acclaimed but niche studio finally goes stratospheric with a release that becomes the watercooler game of its day. It’s been a long time coming: Larian are masters of their craft. But we don’t yet know how the PS5 version will compare to its PC brethren, in terms of visual fidelity or its gameplay experience. Except we can make a few educated guesses in terms of how the PS5 version will shake out, because this isn’t anyone’s first rodeo when it comes to console ports of best-on-PC games. We know how BG3 will control on the PS5’s DualSense controller because it’s natively supported in the PC version: with the correct on-screen prompts and everything. And, we know roughly how the PS5 compares to equivalent PC hardware in terms of performance. Granted, 1:1 comparisons are impossible here because PCs and consoles are different beasts, designed to do different things. But in the video below we predict that the PS5 version will look similar to the PC version running at medium settings with some kind of resolution scaling - possibly AMD’s FSR 1.0, which is currently available as an option on PC. Though we can’t know for sure how it’ll look until PS5 code comes in, we can answer the other part of the equation – how does it play? – pretty confidently, barring some sort of disaster where the game’s performance affects how it feels to control (not likely - see below). The controller support is excellent. Larian have done a fine job of arranging the myriad options available to traditional keyboard & mouse users onto a gamepad interface without the experience feeling lesser or compromised. The system revolves around all the important menus being mapped to triggers and bumpers – including an extensive and infinitely customisable in-combat radial menu where you’ll be spending most of your time agonising over your next move. Lords of the Fallen's biggest achievement is how it rethinks the Souls-like death loop – PREVIEW

You are fighting a boss – a grudge-bearing religious sort, in a graveyard, that’s not a million miles away from Father Gascoigne, if I’m being honest – and you whiff an attack with your zweihander. The penitent one carpes the diem and impales you, skewers you like a pig. You’re down. Dead. Usually, you’d respawn at your bonfire, or shrine, or lantern, or Site of Grace, or whatever flavour of checkpoint you’re using today. But in Lords of the Fallen, the game continues. You are a revenant, now. A soul unhitched from its flesh, cast into the dark realm – the Umbral. In Lords of the Fallen’s land of Mournstead, there are parallel realms, inter-connected and ever-present. The world of the living (Axiom) and the world of the dead (Umbral) co-exist, and house their own unique pathways, enemies, characters, treasures. To die here isn’t an ending, but a new opportunity. “There are several layers of uniqueness in our game, right?” smiles Saul Gascon, head of studio and executive producer at Hexworks when I ask why the developer wanted to mess with a sacred part of the Soulslike gameplay loop. “The most obvious one, and the most high-level, is the Umbral. The whole Umbral concept was designed to twist the death loop to make you (as creative director, Cezar Virtosu, always says) ‘play your own death’. Read more

AEW Fight Forever: Pro Gamer vs Pro Wrestler - who will win?

AEW: Fight Forever is beloved by wrestlers and gamers alike, but what happens when the two are brought together? And how do they compare? Both careers demand total dedication to meet the demands of a hungry crowd, but while one calls for the discipline of a healthy mind and body, the other mainly calls for a lot of shouting and a reliance on convenience food. Check out our fascinating documentary, below, that delves into the personal and professional lives of Simon Miller and Jim Trinca, who are both dedicated professionals in their respective fields, but with a crucial difference: one of them is always in the gym, and the other is called Jim. Keen to give the game a go yourself, and see if you have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with a professional wrestler (albeit, a virtual one?) You’ll have a choice of 60 professionals to test your mettle against (that’s 46 men and 14 women). And you’ll get to play out your very own career, if you’ve got fortune and fame on your mind, or just focus on battering anyone you don’t like in exhibition matches, if that’s more your style. Diablo 4 won't use up all your VRAM after the next patch

Although it was not explicitly mentioned in the recently published 1.1.1 patch notes, Blizzard confirmed that the update is indeed going to have a fix for a long-running Diablo 4 problem. The problem has to do with how Diablo 4 manages VRAM. At its worst, it can cause the game to crash once it's run out of VRAM to use. Before that happens, however, the game is going to chug and stutter unnecessarily, even when there should be enough VRAM for it to use. The problem actually existed at launch, got fixed, then returned again in a recent patch. It also affected PlayStation 5 users, but all of that is thankfully going to be taken care off soon. Diablo 4 horses will be a lot less terrible soon

Blizzard has heard our cries! The developer is making a number of highly-requested (and logical) improvements to the horses of Diablo 4. The feel of riding horses through the game's open world, the cooldown times associated with mounting/dismounting are all among the points the developer addressed. Horse talk was one of the key topics discussed during the most recent Campfire Chat stream, where the developer acknowledged how annoying it is to, well, just ride your horse around. For one, horses seem to get stuck on the tiniest bits of geometry, and come to a complete stop when they do. This is going to be one of the more difficult things to fix because it involves a number of changes to collision and other areas outside of the horse mechanics themselves. But it's something Blizzard is working on. Read more
